Rickie Oneal Winslow Development for Youth, Inc (ROWDY) was founded in 2003. This 501(c)3 foundation serves all without discrimination on the basis of age, color, citizenship, disability, disabled veteran status, gender, race, religion, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, military service or status.
The mission of ROWDY is to eradicate illiteracy among children and adults. We reach out to children, adolescents and adults through well coordinated intervention programs .
The organization has developed educational and enrichment programs. The programs not only focus on improving performance in core academic subjects such as Math, English and Reading and teaching inner city youth life skills, but give support and guidance through critical developmental stages. ROWDY serves economically disadvantaged children and youth in Fort Bend, Harris and surrounding counties.
Rickie Winslow is a retired NBA player who started the ROWDY Foundation immediately after returning from playing professional basketball abroad. Rickie attended the University of Houston and was a member of the school's famed Phi Slamma Jamma team. Rickie competed in the 1984 Final Four in Seattle. He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls. He also played for the Milwaukee Bucks. Rickie is currently the head coach of the St. John's School (Houston, TX) Junior Varsity basketball team.
